Tuesday is the perfect day to have lunch outside, if the weather holds up. April 23 is National Picnic Day.

The word “picnic” is derived from the French word piquenique which means a meal eaten outdoors. The National Day Calendar notes it dates back to the mid-18 century French dining experience.

Back then, all you needed for a good time was a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread, some cheese and fruit.
