A familiar sight will return to Durango Friday afternoon.
According to the Durango Herald, the train will start taking short trips with a diesel engine in order to help curb the financial loss in the region.
Officials estimate a loss of $21.2 million since the fire began in early June.
The train has canceled 33,000 trips and has had to furlough 150 employees.
The railroad says it will resume coal-fired trips on July 4.
