Military vehicles in La Plata County are being used to help rescue people from the recent flooding.

According to the Durango Herald, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office bought three retired military vehicles through a national program.

It allows agencies to buy used equipment for just the cost of repairs.

When flooding hit Hermosa north of Durango last month, an ambush vehicle and two military grade trucks were used to navigate through terrain other department vehicles couldn’t reach.

The department says it gives them peace of mind that they can do their job no matter the circumstances.
