ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – How much are people looking to spend on gifts this holiday season? According to one national study, the average American adult is planning on shelling out $929 this year on presents.

KRQE News 13 ran that number by local shoppers to see where they stand.

“That seems high,” said David Crosse, shopper. “Maybe that’s a good sign that people are being generous toward family, but maybe it’s also a sign that consumer culture is getting out of hand.”

“That’s a lot of money for people to spend and it makes me concerned about people having a little too much debt,” said Liza Crosse.

That was a national poll, so we don’t know what New Mexicans are planning on spending.

That $929 figure is up almost $50 from last year, but it is still less than what it was before the recession hit almost a decade ago.

On a side note, then poll shows Americans who do a lot of their shopping on the internet spend the most with a holiday gift budget of more than $1,300.Take the poll to let us know how much you’re spending on presents >>
