National food drive raises $18K for New Mexico charities

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – The Backpack Buddies Food Drive June campaign, a CenturyLink sponsored program, raise over $18,000 in New Mexico to help support Storehouse New Mexico, Casa de Peregrinos, Belen Area Food Pantry, ECHO, Food Depot, Harvest Ministries of Roswell, and Storehouse West.

The goal of the yearly drive is to generate donations for local food banks and help raise awareness for the need for backpack programs. The Backpack program provides nutritional, shelf-stable meals for at-risk students during weekends and school breaks.

Nationally, the drive raised more than $1.9 million, including $18,716 in New Mexico. Learn more about Feeding America, Backpack Program here.
