Musician Tobias Rene’s Zozobra contest leaves fans feeling burned

Fans feel burned by a contest put on by Tobias Rene, a well-known New Mexico musician. They thought they’d won VIP tickets to Zozobra, but say they were not impressed by what they received.

Fans expected VIP treatment at the event, but the self-proclaimed king of New Mexico music claims he never made those promises and that he did the best that he could.

“This whole ‘VIP package’ was a total letdown and he acknowledged none of the fans that brought him to where he’s at,” said contest winner Adrian Vallejos.

Before New Mexican musician Tobias Rene performed at Zozobra last Friday, he decided to post a contest on Facebook, giving 50 fans a trip to see Old Man Gloom burn.

“We’ll throw you on a bus, we’ll take you to Zozobra. I’ll get you tickets on me and will get you back. That’s it,” Rene said.

However, some fans say they were promised something much different on a video Rene posted on his Facebook page. A video that’s since been removed.

Vallejos said, “It was pertaining the backstage drop off, VIP passes that got us into a meet-and-greet and autographed memorabilia.”

Vallejos says it was disorganized from the start.

“We get there and nobody had a clue what was going on,” Vallejos said.

He alleges not only were the tickets nowhere to be found, but neither was Rene. Eventually, they were given general admission tickets where they had to compete with the crowds.

“There was no meet-and-greet, there was no autographs,” Vallejos said.

Yet, Rene claims that was never part of the deal.

“There was no talk, no promises of prizes or even autograph sessions, even though I brought stuff and threw it out there,” Rene explained.

The contest winners were upset they didn’t get CDs as they were being tossed out to the crowd. However, Rene says he never meant to upset his fans.

“I’m sorry if you didn’t have a good time, but I did the best I can to give you an opportunity to have a little bit of fun,” Rene said.

Rene added that they were only able to perform a few songs because of the lightning, which cut the event short. Although a lot of people ranted on Facebook about the contest, Rene says this wont be the last time that he does something like this for his fans.
