Murder charges filed against man accused of killing Officer Webster

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It comes more than a year after his death. Thursday, the man accused of gunning down Albuquerque Police Officer Daniel Webster during a traffic stop was officially charged with murder.

The District Attorney’s Office repeatedly told KRQE News 13 over the past year that there was no rush to charge Davon Lymon with the murder because he’s in federal custody and he’s not going anywhere.

The Attorney General’s Office took the case a couple months ago, and Thursday they took action, charging Lymon with Officer Webster’s murder.

The criminal complaint spells out some new details, and elaborates on others.

It was already known that Officer Webster pulled Lymon over in October of last year at Eubank and Central, because Lymon’s motorcycle plates came back as stolen. The criminal complaint now confirms the bike was, in fact, stolen.

That’s when police say Lymon, an ex-con who had already served time for a killing, pulled out a gun and shot Webster, firing off six shots. Lymon was captured a few blocks away, hiding under a porch.

Police also found the murder weapon, they traced back to Lymon.

Thursday the complaint revealed he bought it from a Stanley couple three weeks before the killing. They posted an internet ad and met him on Central for the sale. He’d given them a fake name, and of course a background check is not required on a private sale like that.

The criminal complaint does not give a motive for the murder, but as an ex-con, Lymon faced years behind bars if he were caught with that gun. He was just convicted last week on a federal charge for having that gun the night of the murder and faces up to ten years for it.

Lymon had a 17-year-old girl on the back of the bike at the time, she ran after the shooting.

Police found her a week later when she ended up in the juvenile jail for something else. She blabbed in front of a CYFD worker that Lymon was her “homie,” and that she was there for the murder.
