A new program hopes to reduce crime in one of Albuquerque’s most crime-riddled areas.

The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office launched the Albuquerque International District Community Based Crime Reduction Program Tuesday.

More than 20 different agencies, including the Albuquerque Police Department, University of New Mexico, business owners and more are teaming up.

They are forming a leadership council that will focus on a community-driven approach to slowing down crime in the International District.

The program is part of a $1 million grant from the Department of Justice.
