Motorcyclist sues city, public schools after losing leg


SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A motorcyclist who lost a leg when he was hit by a school bus driver is suing the city and Santa Fe Public Schools.

It happened outside the school bus yard off Yucca Road in 2014. The school bus driver was in her personal SUV exiting the yard when she hit Gabriel Mares leaving him with serious injuries.

In his lawsuit, Mares accuses the city and schools of failing to put up proper signage to keep the area safe.

Mares is asking for medical costs and punitive damages.
