Program Developed at UNM Raises Awareness about Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a common silent disease that increases the risk of broken bones (fractures), which can have devastating consequences, including pain, disability, death, and what most of us fear most – loss of independence.

Unfortunately, most patients with osteoporosis are not being identified and treated, and there are not enough osteoporosis specialists to care for the patients who need them.

UNM has developed a program called Bone Health TeleECHO, where they use video conferencing to link healthcare professionals throughout New Mexico, in other states, and in other countries, to educate them to provide best practice care for patients with osteoporosis.
