Native bees are suffering from the same “thousand small cuts” that honeybees suffer.
This includes diminishing habitat, mono-crops in agriculture, chemicals, mites/diseases and development/loss of native plants.
However, there are many ways ordinary citizens can help these beautiful and diverse native bees survive.
There are over 4,000 bee species in the U.S., and New Mexico is home to 1100 native bees.
Residents have a unique opportunity to protect and care for them.
