ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After losing his family to tragedy, KRQE’s very special Pet of the Week needs a very special home, along with his best buddy Raina.
Baxter Cape came to NMDOG after his mom passed away tragically in an auto accident about a month ago while she was transporting a dog to his new home in Colorado. Chris Cape was the President of Blackhat Humane Society – a group which rescue animals from the reservations, primarily the Navajo Nation. Her contribution to animal welfare in NM will be greatly missed. She is also missed by her many furry family members, all of whom have found safety with family, friends and rescue colleagues. They decided to keep Baxster’s last name so he would never forget who he is and where he came from.
Baxter Cape was rescued off of the Rez by Chris as a stray in 2009 at the age of 2. He was beaten down, starving & carried a lifetime of loneliness with him when he was saved by Chris – two years fending for yourself on the Rez can do a lot of damage. He spent the next 9 years living as part of his forever family until the only family he has ever known was taken away from him.
Baxter Cape was broken hearted. Now approximately 11 years old, he is in need of a new loving forever family, where he can spend his golden years spoiled, adored and happy!
He is very loving and affectionate, he enjoys being brushed, walks along the river and most of all….he loves his BFF NMDOG Raina.
NMDOG would love more than anything to keep the bonded pair together! It’s heartwarming to see how much Baxter loves Raina and vice versa. Baxter Cape does not really like any other dogs and Raina lost her lifelong companion at Christmas. Together, they have filled the holes in each others’ hearts.
NMDOG is open to adoption, foster or even a forever foster for the bonded pair…whatever it takes to keep them together in a safe, loving home.
