Feed New Mexico Kids Partnering with APS to Feed Hungry Children

Feed New Mexico Kids and New Mexico Prays are partnering with Albuquerque Public Schools to feed needy children and their families this Thanksgiving.

Each $40 donation to the citywide food drive “A Seat at the Table” provides one box of dinner that feeds four people.

Their goal is to fill 2,000 boxes and distribute those meals to needy children within the Albuquerque Public School System.

In 2017, 3,750 youth qualified as homeless under the McKinney Vento Homeless Act, which identifies children as homeless if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

One out of every four kids in New Mexico lives in a food-insecure home, making the state first in the nation for child food insecurity.

A hungry child is twice as likely to repeat a grade, three times as likely to get suspended, and five times as likely to commit suicide.

However, when a hungry child receives regular food assistance, they improve in school attendance, behavior, and school grades.
