Behind the Badge NM Focuses on Psychiatric Service Dogs during September

Mornings

Behind the Badge NM is a local non-profit that focuses on giving back to first responders and their families by creating a fund to pay for counseling and ancillary services.

This month, the organization is focusing on psychiatric service dogs.

There is a misunderstanding that people with PTSD and anxiety should have an emotional support dog.

Dog who help people going through an incredibly tough time like this are actually called psychiatric service dogs.

Psychiatric service dogs are a specific type of service dog trained to assist their handler with a psychiatric disability or a mental disability, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.
