August 1 Morning Rush: Witnesses in lapel video claim APD cruiser caused collision

Mornings

1. APD’s accident review board is taking a look at a crash to see if the officer was at fault. Officer Sean Callinan claims a driver ran a red light so he chased him. This was on southbound Coors to Montano. A report says Callinan then broadsided a driver who was heading north on Montano through a green light. In new lapel video, witnesses including the driver say the officer didn’t have lights on or sirens running.  Officer Callinan says his emergency lights were on. That would violate APD’s standard operating procedures.

2. APD says they’re searching for two suspects including the person accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Clifford Patterson. Wednesday, 15-year old Gabriel Martinez likely remains in jail, charged with his murder. According to a criminal complaint, the shooting stemmed from a drug deal gone bad. It also adds that Martinez and his friends arranged to buy a quarter pound of marijuana when Martinez and two of his friends got in a car at the end of gemstone road. That’s when police say Patterson was shot in the head by someone identified as “Damien.” Officers say days before the deal was set to take place Martinez used Facebook messenger to tell his friends that he planned to rob someone for weed. Martinez was arrested Tuesday.
