For more than a decade, the Governors Charity Ball has been looking out for New Mexico children.
For this year’s 16th annual Governors Charity Ball, two charities in particular will be the ones benefitting. Those charities are the Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse and the Children’s Grief Center.
The Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico (CGC) has provided bereavement services through support groups and other activities for children ages 5-25 after the death of a loved one since 2001.
Their mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment in which children, teens, young adults and their caregivers can share experiences and feelings while grieving a death. Support groups allow kids to see that there are other kids just like them, that what they are feeling is normal, and that there is hope.
The Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse is an Albuquerque, New Mexico nonprofit through fiscal sponsorship agency, Capacity Builders, Inc.
Their mission is to end child sexual abuse through preventative education for parents and guardians of young children. They develop and provide books, games, and tools for parents/guardians, and others to help educate and empower their children to protect against sexual abuse.
