Spring is just around the corner and so is the season of orange barrels.
The Department of Transportation has a lot of projects in progress. On Wednesday, the I-40 and Louisiana interchanges will be going under the knife and there will be lane closures.
Drivers across Albuquerque are already stressed out by major DOT construction projects around the city.
From the massive overhaul of the Rio Bravo interchange, to the work on I-25 between San Mateo and San Antonio, commuters are getting used to the backup.
Now the DOT is less than 24 hours away from yet another major project, and signage are already in place.
According to a DOT spokesperson, the work will focus on all of the interchange’s on and off-ramps.
The work will also run in phases through August.
“Frustrated I guess you could say, but I know in the long run it will be a good thing, I just wish we wouldn’t do all our construction at once,” said Steven Luthy.
In June, crews will start rehab repairs on the I-25 bridges over Lomas, Mountain, Central and the frontage roads
Drivers admit they are not excited to find alternate routes around all the construction, but they’re hopeful it’s all worth it in the end.
Some of the closures will be at night.
