(KRQE) – The University of New Mexico School of Medicine hosted a memorial service to honor this year’s anatomical donors and their families.

The memorial was held Saturday morning at the Aquinas Newman Center. It honored 200 donor families and friends, including UNM students and faculty.

This was a non-denominational service for donor family members and medical workers to say goodbye to those who contributed to medical education.

The service included poetry readings, donor family speeches, music from students and more.

“Donating one’s body is a very noble and selfless act. Their gifts give us the opportunity to learn in a way that would not otherwise be possible. We also want to recognize the sacrifices of the families.” Stephanie Briones, first year medical student.

This was the 16th memorial service that healthcare students organized.
