Mayor Tim Keller signed the city budget Thursday.
The operating budget is about $1 billion, with about $577 million of general funds.
The major focus of the budget is public safety, recruiting new officers and give pay raises to officers.
Some of the budget money will also go towards behavioral health, drug addiction and homeless housing programs.
It is also putting more importance on after-school programs for kids.
“To help our young folks stay out of trouble and also help them continue to be engaged, enriched when they’re not in the classroom and that’s a wonderful way that we can step up as a city and help our education system,” said Mayor Tim Keller.
The mayor also says the budge will help build the economy and create new jobs.
