Many New Mexicans to wait longer to get tax refunds

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Thousands of low income New Mexicans will have to wait longer than normal to get their tax refunds.

For the first time, Americans who file their taxes claiming either an earned income tax credit or an additional child tax credit won’t see a tax return check until after Feb. 27.

That’s because the IRS is trying to combat identity theft and those two credits have the highest potential for fraud. Experts say regardless of whether your refund is delayed file early.
