ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man will spend six years in prison for killing a 10-year-old girl while racing on I-25.
Xavier Nelson was 23 when he hit a family’s van driving more than 100 miles per hour on I-25 and Montano in 2016.
Carmen Rivera, 10, was thrown from the van and killed.
A jury convicted Nelson of vehicular homicide in December and a judge sentenced him Tuesday.
The Rivera family has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Nelson and the owner of the car he was driving.
