Man pleads guilty to charges stemming from fatal crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who drove drunk, led police on a high speed chase then killed an innocent man when he crashed, pleaded guilty Tuesday.

Ofimiano Herrera, 28, ended his spree near Coors and Quail in March of 2015 where he plowed into a family’s SUV. He killed Oscar Alemieda senior, and seriously injured Alemieda’s wife, son and son’s girlfriend.

In court Herrera pleaded guilty to the three most serious charges including vehicular homicide. After that the judge asked Herrera to explain to the court including the victim’s family exactly what he had done.

As part of a plea deal, Herrera will get between 24 and 31 years in prison. He faced up to 41.
