A man is facing federal charges after a camping trip in the Petroglyphs. Sunday, a park ranger found Jonathan Mayeux living in a tent with his dog.

He says Mayeux claimed he was entitled to live on forest property and refused to give the ranger his ID. The ranger says Mayeux’s dog nearly attacked him and he was forced to shoot the animal.

Mayeux was arrested and charged with illegal camping, threatening a government employee and failing to restrain his dog.
