Man faces 14 years behind bars for 1984 murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Wednesday night, a man is facing 14 years in prison for killing another man 32 years ago.

Valentin Vasquez was caught in Illinois last year after he fled Albuquerque in 1984. That’s when he shot and killed his girlfriend’s brother, 34-year-old Juan Gutierrez, during an argument.

In court, Vasquez pleaded no contest to second degree murder.

Vasquez is a Mexican national, and will be deported after his prison sentence.
