Man accused of stealing from LANL facing charges

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE) – A man accused of taking tools from Los Alamos National Lab has now been charged. Late last year, someone saw Richard Atencio throwing the tools out of the trunk of his car into bushes on lab grounds.

A hazmat sweep found high radiation levels throughout his car but when the FBI searched Atencio’s home no lab property or radioactive items were found.

But after a lengthy investigation, Atencio has been arrested and is facing charges, according to the Los Alamos Monitor.
