ALBUQUERQUE, N .M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man is charged with child abuse, accused of letting a 3-year-old play alone near one of the city’s busiest intersections.

Police say 27-year-old Edward Silva was drunk while the toddler played in a gas station parking lot at Central and San Mateo, coming dangerously close to wandering into the street.

According to a criminal complaint, a gas station employee rescued the child.

It’s unclear how Silva and the child are related. Silva was booked on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.
