ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man accused of killing an Army veteran during an ATM robbery is on trial for a robbery he allegedly committed before the murder.
Matthew Chavez is accused of gunning down Tyler Lackey near Gibson and Yale in 2016 when the Army veteran refused to give up his money.
Monday, Chavez went on trial for the robbery of a Cricket Wireless store and an employee inside.
Chavez is already serving a three-year sentence in Oklahoma, for robberies committed there after the murder.
Chavez is scheduled to go on trial for Lackey’s murder in September.
