Lot owner, neighbors upset over ‘Tent City’ move

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Tent City just moved to a new location but now they maybe booted out of there too. Campers have set up on Second and Santa Fe in the empty parking lot of the old A&P Bar.

They moved from First and Iron Wednesday night after the city gave campers a notice to vacate or go to court. That is when the Barelas Neighborhood Association gave campers permission to stay there but the lot owner said he didn’t. It’s private property and he does not want them there and neighbors are echoing that.

The mayor’s office says it’s concerned the Barelas Community Coalition offered up the site without considering the impact on the people who live nearby.
