Local students are preparing for the 2019 National Debate Tournament this summer in Dallas.
Among them are Rio Grande High schoolers, Jeremiah Quintana and Cesar Chaparro. They compete in the “duo” category, a challenge that requires them to act out a full-length movie in 10 minutes without looking at or touching one another.
After countless mornings spent preparing for competitions before sunrise, Jeremiah says his teammates are more than just his peers.
“These are my best friends, we’ve grown so much together,” he said.
Next month, the New Mexico Speech and Debate Foundation is hosting a gala at Aux Dog in Nob Hill to help raise money for the trip.
