Local organizations work to employ those with disabilities

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The statistics for families dealing with members with a disability are very high.

Twenty million of the 70 million U.S. families have at least one member of the family suffering from a disability.

The Center for Development and Disabilities (CDD) has started a program to raise awareness to this statistic and to help those affected by it become employed.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Tanya Baker McCue with the UNM Center for Development and Disability, along with Ryan Stevens with Patient Support Services, joined KRQE’s This Morning team to discuss the issue. Watch above.

On October 4th of this year, the 3rd Annual Partners for Employment Symposium brought together businesses and community agencies to learn how to work with and create employment for those with disabilities.

Two weeks later, the NM Ticket to Work Partners presented the 7th Annual Employment Expo that included over 50 employers and reached over 200 qualified job seekers with disabilities.
