(KRQE) – A local group called “Listo Nuevo Mexico” denounced the Supreme Court’s decision that blocks the President’s plan to allow four million undocumented immigrants to stay in the United States legally.
The U.S. Supreme Court has dealt a blow to President Obama’s executive orders on immigration. The 4-4 ruling was split evenly between the court’s conservatives and liberals.That means a lower-court ruling will stand.
President Obama says his administration will continue its focus on deporting people who have committed crimes, and that long-term immigrants who aren’t criminals will remain a low priority.
The New Mexico group says the program would have benefited more than 36,000 families in New Mexico.
GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan called the deadlocked vote, a victory for the constitution.
