LoboScape, UNM’s new advertising technology

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – You might have seen it already while exiting the Albuquerque International Sunport, it’s the latest in visual arts technology.

The LoboScape welcomes travelers as they exit the revolving doors leading from the terminals and allows those to discover the University of New Mexico.

“On behalf of UNM, we are proud to be a part of your destination,” said President Robert G. Frank, “whether you are a first time visitor to the Land of Enchantment or returning home.”

The university is trying a different approach to advertisement because they feel that traditional advertising doesn’t allow for a meaningful expression. They also believe that the Sunport is a necessary venue to allow for such expression.

UNM Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Cinnamon Blair said, “With the Sunport as a major entry into the city and the state, we need to create an ad that fits their aesthetic with a ‘you have arrivedโ€™ message,” she said.

Blair turned to the School of Architecture and found Matt Gines. Gines runs the Fabrications Lab and started a year ago working on the design for the airport display. Gines honored Blair’s wishes to go beyond advertisement and created more of an experience with the help from 4 of the university students.
