Lobo Hockey rallies to help junior hockey team struck by tragedy

Lobo Hockey players have rallied to help a junior hockey team struck by tragedy.

Fifteen Canadian junior hockey players died in a bus crash last week.

The Humboldt Broncos were on their way to a playoff game when their bus collided with a tractor trailer.

To show their support, UNM players are raising money through a GoFundMe campaign.

They say it will fund a scholarship for one of the surviving team members, and are thanking the Albuquerque community for showing support.

“So this is bigger than a Lobo charity. This has been Albuquerque coming together and I’ve been very pleased about how many people have come together and donated that don’t play hockey, have no affiliation with hockey, but think this is a good cause,” Coach Grant Harvey said.

So far the campaign has raised more than $4,000 of its $5,000 goal.

The Lobos are also auctioning off a special team jersey that isn’t usually available to the public.
