Lawmakers pass measure to change lottery scholarship amounts

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Lawmakers have passed legislation that would establish set amounts for lottery scholarships depending on the type of college a student attends.

If signed by the governor, students at research institutions like the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University would get $1,400 a semester.

It would be $950 a semester for comprehensive institutions like Eastern New Mexico University.

Right now, the lottery scholarship pays for 60 percent of tuition regardless of the school.
