Some students at the University of New Mexico could be paying more in tuition next year as part of a proposed budget headed to the university’s board of regents.
A recommended budget was approved by the board of regent’s Finance and Facilities committee. If approved, students within the College of Art and Sciences would pay an extra $10 per credit hour or roughly $300 more per year.
The interim provost, Richard Wood told the Albuquerque Journal that 40% of the student body would be affected by this tuition increase. UNM also told the Journal they hope the added costs will help generate $1.7 million if funds for the school.
The board is expected to vote on the roughly $3 billion budget next week.
