Students at New Mexico Highlands University are protesting cuts to their work-study pay. According to the Las Vegas Optic, the university asked the department to dock student’s pay to $7.50 an hour and cap work weeks to 20 hours.

A petition called NMHU Students Demand an End to Reduction of Hours and Pay was created online and had 656 signatures as of Wednesday. The Las Vegas Optic reports that around 40 students gathered on the campus Monday marching around administration offices and making stops at the Student Union Building.

School officials say the cuts are needed to balance the budget. The students say the move came without input from students.
