A portion of the Relief Route southwest of Roswell has been closed due to high winds that could cause potential visibility hazards while on the road.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation has closed the Relief Route between West Brasher Road and Sunset Avenue.
The municipal landfill and Spring River zoo have also closed due to the winds. The National Weather Service estimates wind in southeast New Mexico to reach 45-50 miles per hour possibly going up to 70 miles per hour.
The winds will also contribute to critical fire weather conditions and may result in power outages and property damages.
