The full House will consider a bill to decriminalize prostitution for those under the age of 18. House Bill 56 would ensure minors in prostitution cases are not charged with a crime.
Instead, the children would be looked at as human trafficking victims. The bill also requires state agencies to provide them with protection and trauma services.
Sponsors of the bill say it’s not fair for non-consenting children to be charged as criminals for being sexually exploited.
The bill had a 4 to 1 approval vote last week and now moves to the House floor.
