The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office will soon be equipped with new ballistic shields. They say it will protect them in dangerous situations.
“That gives us the ability to place this in front of a victim if we need to evacuate someone or render aid in an active shooter situation,” said a deputy with BCSO.
This is the same type of shield used by the SWAT team to protect deputies against gunfire. There are 15 shields, one for each sergeant in case of an emergency.
The Del Norte Rotary Club donated $10,000 for the shields and BCSO matched the money.
