News

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Lamont Smith is the new head coach of the University of San Diego men’s basketball team. Smith is leaving New Mexico to take the job after two years as a Lobos assistant. You could say Smith is going home. He played basketball for the Toreros and was a team captain from 1997 to 1999.

He inherits a team that went 15 and 16 last season. Smith replaces Bill Grier who was fired less than two weeks ago after 8 seasons. Grier compiled a 177 and 144 won loss record during his time at San Diego.
