Kids battling cancer get a taste of college life

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – They are kids fighting cancer but Friday they became college students.

“I think it’s pretty cool so they can get a pretty good idea of what college is like,” said Jordyn Evans, student.

“It was really fun. We got to see a lot of different things and shown a lot of different career choices so it was pretty cool,” said Gabby Johnson, another student.

These kids got the chance to attend CNM and they got the full college experience. They had to register get an ID, then attended different classes, including nursing and a culinary class. Today they made chocolate covered strawberries.

The program aims to inspire these kids to go to college.

“This shows they can succeed and go to college. Some are little, some are teenagers who might not want to go but it looks like today we put it in their heads that they’re going to go to college and that’s the whole point of this,” said John Corvino, CNM Security.

Later that evening, the kids took a final exam and graduated.
