Justice Department files lawsuit against New Mexico State University

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against New Mexico State University Thursday, alleging that the school discriminated against a former female assistant track coach.

The DOJ says that NMSU and its Board of Regents paid the coach less than similarly-situated men, violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

The department says NMSU paid Coach Mary Harkins thousands of dollars less per year than it paid two male assistant track coaches with similar responsibilities.
