Jon ‘Bones’ Jones gets emotional while discussing potential doping violation

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (KRQE) – A tearful Jon “Bones” Jones faced the media Thursday, just hours after learning he will not be allowed to fight Saturday night at UFC 200, after Jones was busted for a potential doping violation.

It was late Wednesday night when UFC President Dana White dropped the bombshell that Jon “Bones” Jones will not be fighting Cormier after a June test revealed a potential doping violation by Jones. Fans say once again, they feel let down by the fighter.

“Kinda disappointed, especially because my son looks up to him, kinda sad to see him in trouble again,” said Daniel Quintana.

White did not release what specific substance Jones tested positive for. Neither did Jones or his manager during Thursday’s press conference. Jones struggled to keep it together while answering other questions.

“I believe that something good will come from this, but right now it’s hard to see it. I’m sorry that I’m crying,” said Jones.

When asked about the substance he tested positive for, Jones said it’s something he knows nothing about.

Jones said, “Whatever it is I can’t even pronounce it. I’ve never even heard of it, so I’m just now learning about it myself.”

This is just the latest bump in the road for Jones. He was already completing 120 hours of community service for an April 2015 crash where he hit a pregnant woman and fled the scene. Then back in March, Jones was cited for several traffic violations.

With this alleged doping violation, Jones is facing a potential two year suspension from the UFC. Some fans say maybe that would be for the best.

Quintana said, “Maybe it will open his eyes a little bit and see that the stuff he’s doing isn’t right.”

Jones added, “If I’m out for two years maybe this is something that God felt I needed.”

At one point, Jones was so emotional he stepped out of the room. His manager says they are conducting a secondary test and expect those results back Thursday night.

It’s unclear if this potential doping violation will affect Jones’ probation status. Officials say if the substance he tested positive for is illegal, it could, but they too are waiting to hear what was detected.
