Irrigation water is on its way to southern New Mexico farmers who depend on the Rio Grande.
Officials with the Elephant Butte irrigation district say beginning in early June, farmers can expect to start with roughly six inches of irrigation water per acre. However, officials say that amount could increase depending on how much snow melts and runoff ends up in the Rio Grande.
Current levels in Elephant Butte Reservoir sit at about 14% capacity.
