There is a growing problem with illegal trails in the Durango area and officials say they will be cracking down.

Wildlife managers say bicyclists are creating trails in areas that are critical habitat for wildlife.

Last summer, the forest service destroyed several trials, but the problem still persists.

Bureau of Land Management officials say they’ve begun citing people when they catch them on the trails.

The fines can reach several hundred dollars.

They are asking people to obey the rules and if they don’t, entire areas may have to be closed off for rehabilitation.
