Hobbs’ first African American mayor has died

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – Hobbs’ first African American mayor, has died.

According to the Hobbs News-Sun, Zeak Lovell Williams Jr. died on Monday. His son told the Hobbs News-Sun, his father died, at his Hobbs home from a sudden heart attack.

Williams was Hobbs’ first black commissioner who was elected in 1986.

In 1988, he became the city’s first black mayor where he served two nine-month terms.
