A little over a year ago, KRQE News 13 helicopter pilot and reporter Bob Martin tragically died in a helicopter crash.
Thursday morning, Martin’s legacy will continue as those helicopter operators gather at Balloon Fiesta Park for safety training.
“In the spirit of carrying on his name and the mission of bringing all these operators together for a kind of a collaboration training,” said Larry Koren, BCSO undersheriff.
Back in 2012, Bob started an initiative to bring together helicopter operators from throughout the state to discuss safety issues or concerns.
The training will last all day, going over topics such as mountain rescue, effects of fatigue and hot to work with multiple agencies.
This is the second annual Bob Martin Helicopter Safety Day.
