The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirms cases of polio like-disease in 31 states, including one case in San Juan County, New Mexico.
The CDC has confirmed 116 cases of acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM, in the United States this year. That’s up by 10 from last week.
Most of the kids with confirmed cases experienced viral illness about a week before the onset of paralysis.
It’s unclear if there is a greater risk of AFM in states that have a higher number of cases, or if those states are better at identifying and reporting cases.
