A secretary from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Wednesday on allegations of embezzlement.

Sarah Moncayo, 35, has been charged with embezzlement, tampering with evidence and fraud after a New Mexico State Police investigation into missing bond money that was not submitted by the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office to the Guadalupe Magistrate Court.

State authorities have concluded after an investigation that Moncayo, working as the secretary, voided receipts from two separate victims who submitted their bond money and pocketed the total amount of $2,715.

New Mexico State Police say Moncayo later admitted to stealing the money.

The missing money originally resulted in a warrant being issued for one of the victims who had paid their bond.

That warrant has since been cleared.

Neither of the victims’ identities will be released by state authorities.

Moncayo is currently in custody at the De Baca County Detention Center.
