SANTA FE (KRQE) – A group of voters are urging Gov. Susana Martinez and commissioners to move faster in filling a vacant state Senate seat, calling it an emergency.

Sen. Phil Griego, who represented one of the biggest districts in the state, suddenly resigned Saturday after allegations he participated in a shady real estate deal.

State law says commissioners, who are tasked with choosing a replacement, have to give public notice three days before meeting, but this group argues naming a replacement is an emergency.

Without representation, they could lose out with every vote they miss in the legislative session.
